Week 10: White Night "Dirty Water" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club

Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 10: White Night - "Dirty Water"   Grab the free download When attempting to describe the Fullerton / Anaheim, CA quintet, White Night (to those who have yet to give them a listen), one may face a challenge. Are they punk? Are they psychedelic? Are they attempting to go back to the days when pop or even pop-punk weren’t insulting things to be compared to? Or are they just plain ol' good time, hard-nosed rock and roll? The truth of the matter is that White Night is all of these things and more. While more bands are working to blur the traditional boundaries of nearly every genre, White Night fully embodies that melting pot sound which is reinvigorating rock and roll and its many sub-genres today. Like many bands that came before them, White Night was conceived as a way to meet girls. Guitarist and vocalist Frank Agnew, bassist and vocalist Jon Raines and drummer Mike Gonzales had previously played in bands embedded in the Orange County hardcore scene. But it wasn’t the best scene within which to reach girls, so they switched things up. "White Night started playing in mid-2008," says Jon. "Two of us had been playing together for a few years before that in Pterodacdudes and the Frank-fronted Shred Savage for about the same amount of time. Both bands were on the heavier side and we thought it would be cool to play stuff more pop-influenced and maybe more girls would come to the shows. The new sound soon found a home with their friends at Burger Records. "Sean and Lee are friends from way back," explains Jon. "Mike played in Thee Makeout Party for a bit and we've all been roommates at one point or another." The label would release White Night’s debut cassette Tour EP in 2009 which was followed by Immortal cassette in 2010, and most recently their full length album Weird Night in 2016. The band including Troy Rounsevllie on keyboard and Kevin Carle on guitar are working on their next record. They are also anticipating their first tour in Japan. Tour starts on July 20 and all Japanese dates are with Lenguas Largas from Tucson, Arizona. July 21 - Yokosuka Fuck Yeah w/ Mule Team, EXTRA PLANTS July 22 - Shimokitazawa Basement Bar (daytime show) w/ Number Two July 23 - Ashikaga Soundhouse Pico w/ Broken Mountain July 24 - Waseda ZONE-B July 27 - Tokushima w/ Silver Wigs July 28 - Osaka w/ Sanhose July 29 - Kyoto w/ Sanhose Catch up on previous week's releases: Week 1: The Side Eyes "Cat Call" Week 2: The High Curbs "Empty Bottles" Week 3: VAJJ "Honey Pie" Week 4: Wyatt Blair "Pop Your Heart Out" Week 5: The Flytraps "Female of the Species" Week 6: Hammered Satin "Upward Spiral" Week 7: Death Valley Girls "Born Again and Again" Week 8: Vision "Light" Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch" Like this? Epic Day at Lower Trestles for the 2017 Cobblestone Classic!

That's a wrap for the 2017 Cobblestone Classic held at Lower Trestles, and what a day it was! The surf industry came together on June 16 for this unique, one-day competition to battle it out for bragging rights, good vibes, and to benefit the California State Parks. The team format comprising of professional athletes, brand employees, and amateurs, kicked off at 8am with slow, but clean conditions in the 2-3ft range. As the teams surfed through their Round 1 heats, the conditions improved as the tide filled in and waves increased while we saw some heavy professional surfers drop some huge scores. Dane Reynolds ripped through a two-turn Lowers right for a perfect 10, while other professionals (e.g., Kolohe Andino, Alex Gray, Nathaniel Curren, Nate Yeomans) as well as amateurs and employees, bagged high 8s and 9s, earning their team enough points to make it through to the later rounds. Congratulations to team ...LOST for taking top honors, rightfully claiming some bragging rights, and for ripping through the entire event! Shout out also goes to Red Bull for placing 2nd, Channel Islands for placing 3rd, and Stance for placing 4th (full results below). Excellent surfing all around! Last night was the VOLCOM x GMJ Collection launch party at START Los Angeles.  We spent many months planning this event and we can't believe that it's over! As the sun started setting, crowds quickly started forming a line around the block. The energy was contagious and we knew it was going to be an unforgettable night. The crowd was bigger than we could ever imagine and we couldn't be happier about it. Every corner of the lot was utilized to entertain our guests in the best way possible. We set up custom screen printing on site with our GMJ Raglan Tees. We had a mobile Photo Booth were people could take pictures anywhere they pleased. There was a pop up shop available for guests to shop the collection right then and there. The live art battle between the talented Natasha Lillipore and Jillian Evelyn was something we'll never forget! The A-list entertainment kept guests dancing throughout the night courtesy of Georgia's boyfriend DJ Josh Ludlow & her best friend DJ Alexandra Richards. Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club

Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 9: Meow Twins - "Ratchet Witch"   Grab the free download Meow Twins are another great young band to emerge from the early days of Burger Records. Formed with two singers, aka Meow Twins, Candra Edwards and Lily Stretz linked together when they were freshman and sophomores in high school. Today, they are creating some of the most refreshingly unique and individually-sounding punk rock. The band was originally formed with the two singers, calling themselves "Twins" a la Meow Twins, though they are not actual twin sisters... more like cosmic, spiritual twins. Lily has put down the microphone and picked up the bass while Candra continues to hold down the lead vocals. They are joined by Ez Kramer on drums and Zaine Drayton on guitar, and currently call Long Beach, CA home. "In 2010 we started just going to shows at their record shop and then kinda met them I guess," says Lily. "We had friends that got on the label first and then kinda hooked us up," says Candra. "We were playing there too and setting up shows with our bands," explains Lily. "Most of the shows we went to there were shows we set up," adds Candra. Those who experienced Burger shop shows know what type of scene would gather. Zaine adds, "They had shows about twice a week. FREE shows twice a week!" Sean from Burger tells it like this: "Meow Twins were regulars at our record shop shows during the early years of our Fullerton store. They started as fans and before long started their own band and released their debut cassette (sold out, stream it on Spotify) on Burger Records! Double female punk vocals with a punk pedigree featuring the daughter of Corey Stretz of J.F.A.! Loud, fast and out of control, this band has been and will always be one of our favorites around here." They were also playing bigger shows at Burger events. There is one favorite show that sticks out. "Burger a Go-Go because you get free burgers," says Lily. "Best Coast played too," adds Ez. In February 2016, Meow Twins released their second Burger full length, Skin, and the band plans to hit the U.S. on tour this July, so keep an eye out for tour dates coming soon! Jeff Soto Print Retrospective at The Volcom Garden
POTATOSTAMP 15 YEARS OF POSTERS BY JEFF SOTO Words by Michael Sieben, curator at The Volcom Garden I've been a fan of Jeff Soto's artwork since the early 2000s, and I've always wanted to work with him on a project. When The Volcom Garden opened in Austin, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to reach out, invite him to Texas and showcase some of his art (God willing). I knew that Jeff had designed screenprints for most of his professional career, so I pitched the idea of a print show, and, to my surprise, he was totally receptive to the idea. What initially started as a best-of concept turned into a comprehensive retrospective of every print Jeff has designed over the past 15 years, since 2002 when he graduated from art school. Not only was this Jeff's first major exhibition in Texas, but it was the first time all of his prints had been shown in their entirety. For a curator, this is dream territory. Check out the exclusive Volcom Garden collection, only available at The Volcom Garden an online at volcom.com! We teamed up with Industry Print Shop in Austin to produce two new prints specifically for the event: a limited-edition signed/numbered fine-art print, and a limited-edition gig poster for the gallery itself. Both are available through The Garden. Hit us up @volcomstudio on Instagram. We'll sort you out. This is a photo of Jeff signing the fine-art print to prove to you that he's not actually an art robot sent from the future. I assure you, he's a real man of flesh and blood. I even heard him pee. He's legit. I know this alienates the online audience, but without physically being in the space and looking at the prints in person there's really not a good way to understand how detailed and amazing Jeff's work is. I present to you this close-up image of one of his prints so you can get a glimpse into the precision of his work. Jeff is a wizard. A goddam warlock. His art skills kill dragons (bad dragons). He'd make a good president, all things considered. 15 years of Jeff Soto prints During the opening we also printed some hecka limited-edition Soto/Volcom/Garden split-fountain tees. Don't even bother looking for these on eBay. They gone, man. I'd like to thank Jeff for coming out to Texas and sharing his print collection with us. I'd also like to thank everybody that came out to celebrate this amazing body of work with us. The show will remain up until the 18th of June, so swing by if you can make it to Austin in time. If not, there's always the next show. We ain't going nowhere! See more of Jeff's work at jeffsoto.com and follow him on Instagram @JeffSotoArt! Keep up with happenings at The Volcom Garden on Instagram @VolcomStudio.   The Volcom Garden is located at 1209 East 6th Street in Austin, Texas. Store hours are Monday - Friday, 10am - 8pm.

Week 8: Vision "Light" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 8: Vision - "Light"   Grab the free download There are a lot of things a young man can choose to do after high school. Perhaps you could start a band. "As soon as Ben and I got out of high school we formed the band with Christopher who happens to be my older brother," says drummer Phillip Dominick. "We've been a band since 2011." At that time Burger Records were already cementing a reputation amongst Angelenos. "I've always been a fan of the label," says guitarist and vocalist Christopher Valer. "I've always been a fan of Ty Segall." Their band Vision would soon catch a ride on the Burger wave after a memorable encounter at a grassroots swap meet. "Independent label market, as I recall," remembers Phillip. "It was at Silverlake elementary school." Bassist Ben Nastase adds, "They had a booth there." Burger Records founder Sean Bohrman recalls: "We met Vision at a record label swap meet. I was sitting at our booth and saw this kid walk through the gate and start heading straight for us. He immediately handed us his demo and said he took a bus from East LA to come and meet us. He explained that they don't get the respect they deserve and it was really intense... this guy is not joking around! We listened to the demo on the way home from the swap and it blew us away. It was like a tough Brit-pop band from East LA... like Oasis with balls. And like Oasis, they were comprised of two brothers who are constantly at odds." From that point on, Vision and Burger were like family. "We released their debut tape, their debut LP, have taken them on tours and brought them on shows all over the USA. They're still just as intense as the day we met them." When we asked Vision "what's the best part of working with Burger Records?" their sentiment is similar to Sean's. "It's like working with your homies," says Chris. "Yeah, the relationship, it's really chill," added Ben. Guitarist George Verdugo went on, "the movement of Burger is really good. Burger just seems to be about the music which is awesome." Most of the Cyber Singles Club bands have a favorite Burger moment, Vision are no different and are unanimous in what that moment was. "Yes!" they all said at once with Chris going on to recall. "We always talk about it, when we went to do a photoshoot for Urban Outfitters up in Malibu. That was the first time we ever went to Malibu. We're poor kids from East LA, so that was the first time we ever got to go somewhere up those hills. We were partying... it was so cool. It was something that us street kids, punk rockers, would never experience. The fact that Burger was able to deliver that to us... it was like community. Georgia May Jagger 'Volcom X GMJ' Premiere Collection Available Now
We're so excited to finally unveil our debut Volcom x GMJ Collection. We spent many days and nights working with the beautiful Volcom Women's celebrity ambassador, designer and muse, Georgia May Jagger on the collection. We've been fans of Georgia May for as long as we can remember, so when the possibility of working together became an option, we jumped at the chance to take it. Her love of skate culture, music and fashion makes her the perfect addition to the Volcom Women's girl squad. "My life has always been naturally surrounded by skateboarding & music. I always find myself attracted to the city, street culture and musicians." - Georgia May Jagger Shop The Collection   Georgia in the GMJ Tee. Georgia in the GMJ Romper. Georgia in the GMJ Frochickie Pants.
New Future
Dedicated To Everyone That Cares About The Human Race | Cancel History. Stop Hatred.
On May 4th, 2017 a small group gathered at the Volcom office in Costa Mesa to listen to each other talk about their hopes, thoughts, fears and feelings on the myriad of issues facing the human race. It was truly an inspiring night on so many levels. So often we find ourselves talking, but not really listening, making it easy to forget that it’s love, acceptance and an understanding of the past that will give us the power to change our future. Cancel History. Stop Hatred.

Behind the Scenes on the 'Noa Deane is In Bloom' Stab Magazine Cover Shoot
Last fall in conjunction with Stab Magazine we launched a wild contest that would let some creative individual become the creative director on a Stab Mag cover shoot. We called it The House That You Built and the idea was simple; send us your craziest surf shoot concept that brings together the worlds of film, art and surfing for a chance to win $10k and the opportunity to bring the concept to life. We received hundreds of submissions ranging from installing a children's playground structure in a secret break to towing in massive diving boards for some synchronized diving. There was no shortage of harebrained ideas. The winning concept, submitted by Mick Kelleher, a sort of explosion of flower petals that would rain down on a surfer at a secluded break, was not only beautiful in its concept, but also ticked all the boxes bringing together the worlds of film, art and surfing. Taking inspiration from his childhood growing up with a mother who was the president of a flower club in Dallas, TX and a commercial for televisions that has been forever burned in Kelleher's memory (bordering on obsession), the germination of what would become "In Bloom" aka Flower Boy featuring Noa Deane had sprouted. Read the full feature, 'Noa Deane is In Bloom (An Extravagant Gesture of Colour)' on Stab's website... Shot for what was probably 1/100th the budget of the aforementioned big budget tv commercial, a ragtag crew descended on a remote beach break on the south coast of Australia armed with leaf blowers, buckets, trashcans, a ski and enough flower petals you'd think they were decorating a parade float, to pull off what would become the cover of Stab's first issue of 2017. It was a full blast flower / plant / jet ski frenzy. Photo: Bill Morris Photo: Bill Morris We dragged @ilovetables down the South Australian coastline with a handful of photographers, filmers and a couple tonnes of flowers for our latest cover feature 'In Bloom' and the results were an extravagant gesture of colour! This direction was delivered to us via The House That You Built, a competition we ran with our pals at @volcomsurf, which opened up the floor to anyone with an idea for a conceptual surf shoot (won by @mick.etc), which you'll see brought to life via the link in bio.
